MBABANE – The team that has been appointed to oversee the resource mobilisation in the run up to the 2016 SADC Summit is open to any kind of contributions from members of the public and the business sector alike.

The team consists of the PS in the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development, Bertram Stewart, Chief Commercial Officer Magenius Hlophe, Director of SADC Unit Chazile Magongo, Head of Policy and Planning Dumsile Magagula, CEO of FSE&CC Bonisiwe Ntando, Tum du-Pont, President of FESBC and Standard Bank of Swaziland CE Phil Mnisi.

In a press conference yesterday at the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development, the PS said following the success of the launch of the preparations for the summit last Thursday night, the resource mobilisation team would continue to open its hands to members of the public and the business community to make their contributions.

The launch of the preparations for the summit was a resounding success as over E560 000 was raised from different companies last Thursday night at the Mavuso Trade and Exhibition Centre.
Stewart said the event on Thursday night marked the beginning of the process of preparing for the summit to be held in August next year. He encouraged members of the public and the business sector who wish to contribute towards the success of the event to do so. He said the team was available to be contacted by those who would wish to assist government.

The PS further encouraged the private sector to take advantage of the upcoming summit and make use of the opportunities available to market itself. He also implored the business community to use the summit to market themselves and to share ideas with other participants who would be in attendance.

“The summit mostly touches on the private sector, so we encourage them to participate in assisting government and to make an effort in looking for opportunities to either market themselves and to share ideas,” he said.
Steward stressed that next week the team would engage commercial banks in the country to assist in opening designated accounts for ease of collecting contributions in the form of money.

He pointed out that since banks were available in most parts of the country, contributors could make deposits in the banks which would in turn remit the money to the Central Bank of Swaziland. The PS urged banks to assist by opening the designated bank accounts.

The team, according to Stewart, is not expecting contributions in monetary form only. He said they would welcome all kinds of contributions and made an example of things like stationery, decorations and refreshments, among others.
Mnisi assured the public that the Resource Mobilisation team pledged accountability for all contributions that would be made towards hosting the summit.  He added that all that will be bought will be accounted for.
