MBABANE – Cycling Association of Swaziland (CAS) in partnership with their title sponsor, Total, has given out E8 000 to be used for purchasing books for two schools.

The identified beneficiaries were learners from Shiselweni-based Evelyn Baring and Nsongweni schools. The pupils from the two schools were marshals during the Total Swaziland National Road Cycle Championships staged early this year in the Shiselweni region.  Total Managing Director Anthony Siebert, who was joined by the cycling executive, presented the cheque during a brief function at Mbabane Library yesterday.

Receiving the money for purchasing the books was Swaziland National Library Services (SNLS) National Director Joy Dlamini, who was grateful for the support provided to the pupils. She expressed her delight that the Shiselweni region was actively involved in reading initiatives as there was already a mobile library in place.
“The state of roads leading to libraries needs to be improved,” she said.

CAS President Mandla Simelane felt it would have cost an arm and a leg to hire about 30 marshals for the event, thanking the schools for volunteering the service.
“We’re pleased that the pupils got first-hand experience on the sport. People make a living through sport these days,” he said.
“The pupils were excited to be part of the event.”

Siebert said he was happy to join hands with the fast growing sport while also helping out in other sectors that include education.
Sihle Dlamini, an English teacher from Nsongweni, was all smiles on the kind gesture, saying the assistance was more than a drop in the ocean.
“The learners will get the much needed knowledge,” she said.

“The children were excited to be part of the race and would like to come on board again.”
Also present was Principal Secretary representative in the Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology Phesheya Dube. The latter, who is Director of Information and Media Development in the ministry, highlighted that improving the state of the country’s libraries remained top priority.
