SKUAST organises training programme for rural women, unemployed youth

JAMMU, Nov 20: Rainfed Research Sub Station for Sub-Tropical Fruits (RRSS), Raya of Sher-e- Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J), organized one day training programme on “Value addition in Custard apple” under SERB-DST, New Delhi project entitled, “Exploitation of under-utilized fruits of kandi areas of Jammu region through value addition for human resource development” at village Bara, District Samba. The programme was aimed at value addition in custard apple by making milk shake from it. As the fruit is well grown even under drought conditions and well suited in these areas. In this training, about 50 rural farm women and unemployed youth from village Bara participated.
At the Start of the programme Meenakshi Trilokia, JRF, SERB-DST extended warm welcome to the participating rural women, unemployed youth, Omkar Nath Sharma, Sarpanch and Sarmista Rajput, Naib Sarpanch of village Bara.
Dr. Neeraj Gupta, Principal Investigator, SERB-DST Project instigated the training programme and gave details regarding the importance of consuming custard apple in our day today life, value addition in custard apple in the rainfed areas and gave a detailed demonstration for making Milk Shake from custard apple. She apprised the participants with this new technique by its utilization in the Kandi Areas. The Principal Investigator also discussed the procedure of making different products from Custard apple fruit.
In the end of the programme Dr. Neeraj Gupta, Principal Investigator, SERB-DST Project presented vote of thanks to the Sarpanch, Naib sarpanch and un-employed youth for their presence.
