16.11.2015 Complete packaging line from one manufacturer

Beumer Group, Beckum, Germany, has supplied an integrated packaging line including filling, palletising and packaging systems to Calucem d.o.o., a member of Calucem Group, based in Pula, Croatia. This company, which manufactures calcium aluminate cements that are predominantly used in the refractory industry, decided to replace its previous packaging line with an up-to-date and more energy-efficient alternative. Beumer provided an entire line from one single source. Instead of a turbine filling machine, which is typically used in the cement industry, a pneumatic filling system was used to allow for a quick material change without any product loss.

"The cement industry normally uses turbine filling machines", said Stefan Bonenkamp, commissioning engineer at Beumer. However, for this application a twin-spout fillpac filling machine was specified that operates according to the air filling principle, a solution traditionally adopted by the food industry. Here a blower is used to fluidise the material that is to be filled, e.g. flour or cocoa powder. These products can then be filled into bags, gently and precisely, "without mechanical stress and at minimal air consumption", explained Bonenkamp. www.beumergroup.com
