Gadchiroli cops distribute essential commodities, sweets for tribal
NAGPUR: The district police of Naxal-affected Gadchiroli, following the dictum of State DGP Praveen Dixit to improve relations with the local population, distributed eatables, utensils, new clothes and other materials among the tribal for Diwali.
A bulk of the materials, which included sports paraphernalia too, were collected by police departments at places like Palghar, Nashik and New Mumbai who then handed over them to their Gadchiroli counterparts for distribution.
The local population mostly remained detached from the festive fervours of Diwali and Navratri due to their poor socio-economic condition.
The units of different armed out posts (AOP), sub-police stations and police stations of Gadchiroli visited different remote hamlets in the highly sensitive localities of Dhanora, Jimulgatta, Pendri, Bhamragarh, Etapalli and even to remote places like Asar Ali and Sironcha in the extreme south of the district.
The jawans of the district police force also handed over some monetary rewards to the younger women as a mark of the custom of ‘Bhao Beej’ that follows Diwali. Different competitions of sports and other civic activities too were conducted by the police for the tribal.
