PATNA: Senior Congress leader and nine-term MLA from Kahalgaon (Bhagalpur) Sadanand Singh, who was not included in Nitish cabinet despite his seniority, was on Friday named as Congress legislature party (CLP) leader by Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi.
Rahul, who was here to attend the swearing-in of Nitish Kumar as CM, announced Singh’s name as CLP leader at a function held at Sadaquat Ashram, the state Congress headquarters.
Singh is the seniormost among the 27 Congress legislators.
The heir-apparent went to Sadaquat Ashram soon after attending the high-tea hosted by Nitish and announced the new CLP leader’s name, but Singh was not present. He was reportedly stuck in traffic jam.
Asked if he was happy being the CLP leader and not a minister, Singh said being a disciplined worker of the party he would perform whatever responsibility was entrusted to him by the party high command.
State Congress spokesperson Vinod Singh Yadav said Rahul Gandhi, in his brief speech to the state Congress’ executive committee, reminded Congressmen of their responsibility. He told the four party ministers, who took oath on Friday, to serve people of the state sincerely and to ensure that the party workers did not feel alienated.
