FDFA Gold Standards Awards 2015 winners announced

The Frontier Duty Free Association unveiled the winners of its Gold Standards Awards at its annual Imperial Gala, held on November 18, closing the association’s annual convention in Vancouver, BC.

Boutique Hors Taxes de la Beauce was presented with the Category A Platinum Award for Best Canadian Land Border Store while Queenston-Lewiston Duty Free won the Category B Platinum Award for Best Canadian Land Border Store.

Abbotsford Duty Free and Aldergrove Duty Free Store came runners up in the Category A and West Coast Duty Free Store and Blue Water Bridge Duty Free Store were runners up in Category B.

For the fourth year running, the Nuance Group (Canada) won the award for Best Canadian Airport Duty Free Company against competition from World Duty Free Group (Vancouver) and AerRianta International.

The large Supplier of Year award went to Turkey Hill Sugarbush Ltd., with Bacardi and Peller Estates Winery coming in as runners up.

Michel Germain Parfums, Citizen Watch Company of Canada Ltd. and Scandinavian Tobacco were all nominated as the best small Supplier of Year award, with the perfume specialist holding the prize.

The Duty Free Distributor/Agent of the Year 2015 went to Distribution Fontaine Ltd. over Peter Mielzynski Agencies Ltd. and Remy-Cointreau Travel Retail Americas, while Peace Bridge Duty Free won the Best Marketing Award. Importations Guay Ltee and West Coast Duty Free were also nominated in the Marketing Award.

The Glen Deveron Single Malt (Bacardi) and Gucci Bamboo were highlighted as the Best New Spirits/Tobacco/Beer product and Best New Fragrance/Cosmetics Product awards respectively.

Maple Cream Cookies (Turkey Hill Sugarbush Ltd.) and Moulflon Essential –Feathers Collection (Joanel – Bugatti Group) won Best Speciality Products in the Confectionery, Food and Souvenirs and Jewellery, Watches, Handbags, and Accessories categories respectively.

Finally, Zina Arista of Niagara Duty Free won the Outstanding Land Border Employee Award.
