Julia Gillard Inducted Into Cosmo’s Female Hall Of Fame

Our first female Australian Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, has been inducted into Cosmopolitan’s Fun, Fearless, Female Hall of Fame.

Last year’s winner, TV presenter and media personality Lisa Wilkinson, presented Gillard with the award.

“Every young girl in this country has now seen a female prime minister and the significance of that cannot be undervalued,” said Cosmo’s editor-in-chief Bronwyn McCahon. “Julia Gillard is a fearless trailblazer and her ongoing commitment to the education of women around the world makes her a very deserving recipient of Cosmo’s Fun, Fearless Female Hall of Fame Award.”

Gillard gave an impassioned speech about the importance of educating girls world- wide to a VIP audience including The Bachelorette’s Sam Frost, jockey Michelle Payne and model Robyn Lawley, at Sydney’s exclusive Aqua Dining in Milson’s Point.

Since stepping down as prime minister, Gillard has continued to fight for women’s rights, campaigning for the education of girls in developing countries. She’s part of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign video, too, praising her efforts for gender equality.

“Every woman feels the hard balance between biting their lip versus calling out sexist remarks,” said Gillard. “For me, looking back on my Prime Ministership, I wish I called out sexism earlier, rather than presuming it was going to fade away as people got used to a woman prime minister.”
