Yamunanagar villagers manhandle UHBVN team

YAMUNANAGAR: A group of villagers allegedly manhandled a team of Yamunanagar circle of Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) which went to Fatehpur village for detection of power theft yesterday.

A group of villagers allegedly manhandled a team of Yamunanagar circle of Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) which went to Fatehpur village for detection of power theft yesterday.

The Buria police booked four persons - Kuldeep Kumar, Laxman Das, Pankaj, Surinder Kumar - and others under various Sections of the IPC and the SC/ST Act on the complaint of Jagadhri SDO, Munish Sharma.

In a complaint to SP Arun Singh, the SE (Operation) circle, HP Sharma, said that as per the directions of government, the line losses are to be reduced to normal levels. For this, a drive to detect power theft was being carried out in the district.

The team comprising SDO Munish Sharma, JEs Sunil Kumar, Khila Ram and other staff members checked the consumer premises in the village yesterday. Kuldeep and others were stealing power through a kundi connection. Sunil Kumar had recorded the raid and the theft in his mobile phone. Following this, Kuldeep manhanded the JE and broke the latter’s mobile phone.

“As soon as SDO Sharma came to the rescue of Kumar, the culprit Kuldeep and others manhandled him and other staff members also. Besides, the culprit forcibly poured wine on Kumar who is a teetotaller,” Sharma said.

On the other hand, a woman of the village alleged that a member of the raiding team made her video movie when was taking a bath. She also gave a complaint to the police but no case was registered as the case was being investigated by DSP Usha. The HSEB Workers Union held a gate meeting in Jagadhri today demanding arrest of the culprits.
