'Katyar Kaljat Ghusali' earns praise from B-Town

The Marathi movie Katyar Kaljat Ghusali, which released all over Maharashtra and outside territories on November 12, has impressed both the Marathi and Hindi film industry.

Directed by Subodh Bhave, this Zee Studios��� production opened to not just encouraging box office numbers, but also earned admiration from critics and fans. As it enters its second week in cinemas, it continues to hold well despite opening simultaneously with a major Bollywood festival release.

Singer-composer Shankar Mahadevan, who makes his acting debut with this musical, is earning praise for his performance. The soundtrack composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, too, is getting appreciated by audiences who are giving it standing ovation. Calling it ���a great film���, veteran actress Jaya Bachchan said its music is rich and it was a great experience for her. Previously, Amitabh Bachchan had tweeted about the Ganpati song as ���Godly Song in a Godly Voice.���
Lyricist Prasoon Joshi pointed out the irony that on one hand, we lament the decline of quality music, while at the same time we also have a treat like Katyar Kaljat Ghusali. Filmmaker Amole Gupte got nostalgic about the old days when his father used to take him to watch Marathi musicals. Touched and overwhelmed by the soundtrack, noted percussionist Sivamani remarked that music has no boundaries of religion or caste, which this film has proved once again.
Katyar Kaljat Ghusali will be showcased at the prestigious Indian Panorama section of the 46th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Goa. It will also compete for the coveted Fellini Award instituted by UNESCO in memory of the great Italian auteur Federico Fellini.
