The lawsuit hasn’t affected her show, PC up for Season 2
The Quantico star teases audiences with the possibility of Alex Parrish being the terrorist.

Last month, Priyanka Chopra’s TV debut Quantico ran into a legal trouble. A lawsuit had been filed against the show’s producer, Mark Gordon, claiming that the idea for the American series was lifted from a 1999 documentary, Quantico: The Making of an FBI Agent. The “original” filmmakers, Jamie Hellman and Barbara Leibovitz Hellman, and business executive Paula Paizes, filed a 35-page complaint in the Los Angeles Superior Court last month.

Priyanka Chopra, the first Indian actress to headline an American show, is unaffected by the controversy. “Quantico is one of the most successful shows across the globe, we have surpassed the hit primetime show, The Walking Dead. All the writers are fab and our ratings are strong,” she asserts.

The actress, who plays Alex Parrish, informs that the first season has extended from 13 to 19 episodes and this week got another three-episode extension. “It’s hectic, episode 7 is currently airing even as episode 11 is being filmed,” gasps PeeCee, who will be back in Mumbai in December for the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period romance, Bajirao Mastani. “I’ll happily be back for the second season too, if they’ll have me.”

The action-drama follows a group of young FBI recruits through their training period, inter-cutting between their past and present, and also flashes forward to the near future when one of the recruits turns out to be a sleeper terrorist responsible for a devastating attack in the US. “Too many things are happening for even a big heart to hold. I might just be the terrorist, you know,” she laughs.

Last week, the 33-year-old actress brought in Diwali with her “firang” gang and FBI agent co-stars Jaz Masri, Johanna Braddy and Anabelle Acosta in Montreal. They surprised her by turning up in colourful sarees. “I was teary all week because I wasn’t back home for Diwali. My mom had joined me but I was still feeling terrible. And my Quantico family made my day,” she exclaims.

The assistants lit up the driveways outside the vanity vans with lights and brought dancers on the set to wish Priyanka, Bollywood style. Deepika sent her a ‘kashti’ saree and ring, reminiscent of their Kashibai look in Bajirao Mastani. “It made me less homesick,” says PeeCee, who would like to also keep Kashibai’s mangalsutra with her as she has worn it in almost every scene. “The gold and black bead necklace is the most beautiful piece of jewellery I’ve ever worn.”

Arguably, one of the most exciting things about Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas was the dance-off between Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Paro and Madhuri Dixit as Chandramukhi in the “Dola Re” track. Thirteen years later, there’s another dance-off, between Priyanka and Deepika in Bajirao Mastani. “Both Kashi and Mastani love the same man. The lavani, “Pinga”, is a dance of love,” she informs, adding that she has been Bhansali’s “obedient muse”. “I trust Sanjay sir blindly, I am his “wondrous doll.”

Meanwhile, Ritesh Sidhwani, the co-producer of Don, recently took to social media to say, “Much speculation on Don 3 and it’s casting. No thoughts of changing the cast. Working towards developing the script.”

Has he discussed the third instalment of the franchise with her? The Jungli Billi says, “Both Don and Don 2 were amazing. Stepping into Zeenat (Aman) ma’am’s shoes as Roma has been one of my fondest memories. The last time Ritesh and I spoke, he told me that Don 3 would be fun, let’s do it. But nothing has been finalised yet.”
