N. Uttam Kumar Reddy feels that TRS will be trounced in the by-election.

elangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has said that it is an appropriate time for the voters of Warangal parliamentary constituency to teach a fitting lesson to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and his party so that he would focus on genuine development of the district in the remainder of his tenure.

“People of Warangal, who played a prominent role in Indian freedom struggle and separate Telangana movement will not tolerate Mr. Rao’s false promises and glib talk. They have realised that he is nothing, but just a dialogue-delivery politician, whose words were not translated into action at the ground level,” Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy said in an interview to The Hindu on Wednesday here. “We have reminded the voters that not one thing that the Chief Minister promised had become a reality,” he said.

Mr. Reddy, who has been camping in Warangal for close to ten days now, maintained that the anger among the farmers, unrest in the student community and youth over non-fulfilment of the poll promises and tall claims of turning Warangal into a world class city would shatter the dreams of TRS to retain the seat.

He said the party’s confidence stems from the fact that Warangal electorate have come to a conclusion that after 17 months of TRS government, Congress rule was any day better. “Whether it is prices of essential commodities or pro-farmer policies or being more sensitive to the problems of the lowest strata of society, or giving genuinely democratic rule and basically giving space to all voices in free democracy, the Congress party was far better,” he pointed out.

Asserting that the party was sure to win the Warangal bypoll, Mr. Reddy said the party candidate Sarvey Satyanarayana was an experienced political leader, who stands much above his rivals.

He said the party was banking heavily on the farmers, students and youth to see that the TRS was trounced.
