Sathi Jayakrishnan to head Perumbavur

Moving on predictable lines, the Left Democratic Front’s Sathi Jayakrishnan was elected chairperson of Perumbavur municipality on Wednesday.

She won 15 votes in the 27-member council. A second-time councillor, Ms. Sathi had won the Chakkarakattu ward. She won the support of the two independent candidates while the PDP councillor abstained from voting. Nisha Vinayan of the CPI was elected vice-chairperson. She also won 15 votes. Ms. Vinayan had won the Kaduval ward.

The LDF, which was one seat short of an absolute majority, earned the support of K. M. Ali, and M. M. Imbichikoya in the election held to the posts of chairperson and vice-chairperson.

In the election to the 27 wards in the local bodies’ poll, LDF had won 13 seats; UDF-8; BJP-3; Independents – 2; and PDP – 1.
