Raghu Suman Khosla, a ‘high-flying’ habitual offender who committed several thefts in railway stations and on trains across the country, landed in the dragnet of the Government Railway Police (GRP) here on Wednesday.

He owns a posh house, a car and other assets in Delhi where he used to do footwear business and had even travelled by airplanes.

Gold ornaments worth about Rs. 14 lakh were seized from him by the GRP, who stumbled on him through the CCTV footage at Vijayawada station on Tuesday. He has since been moving around, looking for potential targets but could not escape the surveillance cameras.

Producing him before the media on Wednesday, GRP DSP K. Ramakrishna said Khosla is a native of Punjab and was doing footwear business, which he stopped a couple of years ago and had taken to burglaries. He would target women passengers in long–distance trains at late nights, and throw away mobile phones to avoid tracking by the cops. He had several cases pending against him in Agra, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Prasad and other States.

Mr. Ramakrishna said Khosla would mostly travel by airplanes and police had the least suspicion of his identity as he wore fancy jeans and designer wear.

He has been leading a luxurious lifestyle in Delhi and put himself up in upscale hotels and his children are said to be studying in English medium schools in Delhi. Khosla committed many thefts in the purview of Mumbai Suburban Railway (MSR) at Kalyan and Dadar stations.

GRP Circle Inspector T. Srinivas Reddy said whether Khosla had managed to commit thefts in various states in connivance with local accomplices was being investigated.
