Several shopkeepers of the Hazratbal area of the city today protested the hike in rent by the Jammu Kashmir Wakf Board.

The protesters gathered at the Press Enclave here and raised slogans in favour of their demand.

“The Wakf Board has made a sharp increase in the rent. It will be very difficult for us to pay the amount. We have been told to pay Rs 35 per square feet. This is injustice,” said a protestor.

The protesters appealed to the authorities concerned to look into the matter and roll back the hike announced by the Wakf Board.

The shopkeepers warned of more protests if their demand was not met.
