A teenager was killed on the spot, after a multi-utility vehicle (MUV) rammed his moped, near Hosahundi on the Outer Ring Road junction on Wednesday.

Kendaganna Swamy alias Yogesh (19), son of Shanthamurthy, from Kochanahalli in Mysuru taluk is the deceased. He was working as a contract employee of TVS factory at Sindhuvalli near Nanjangud, according to South police personnel.

The mishap occurred when Swamy was riding towards the petrol bunk at Hosahundi. Swamy was negotiating a turn at Devalapura cross road, that connects to the ring road, when his vehicle was allegedly hit by a speeding Innova moving towards Uttanahalli, at around 9.15 am.

Swamy, who was thrown off the vehicle, suffered injuries and died subsequently. The occupants of the vehicle, whom the police are yet to trace, abandoned the vehicle before fleeing from the spot.

Following Swamy’s death, locals from Kochanahalli, Uttanahalli and Hosahundi villages staged a flash protest and blocked the road. The irate villagers also burnt tyres. It was alleged that though the road was yet to be officially opened for traffic, with the pending works on connecting the road to Nanjangud road still underway, it has already turned into a dangerous stretch. Though mishaps have occurred in the recent past, authorities are dithering to instal road humps in the interest of the road users.

South police personnel, who rushed to the spot, found it tough to manage the swelling crowd. Eventually, the sentinels brokered peace by assuring to take their (protesters) grievances to authorities concerned. Finally, the agitators withdrew protest, facilitating the police to take the body for postmortem. A case has been registered.
