Littérateurs and filmmakers who have been returning their awards to protest against intolerance in the country now have a new antagonist.
Bhoothnath filmmaker Vivek Sharma has made a video lambasting everyone from Dibakar Banerjee to Shah Rukh Khan for supporting the AwardWapsi movement. Titled Dhikkar Hai, the video shows six young actors venting their anger (through rhyming verse that stretches the boundaries of anything even remotely resembling poetry) against those who have returned their awards, questioning the sort of ‘filmkar’ or ‘patrakar’ they are, when they have never tried to help the poor or managed to bring about change through their work.
In just two minutes and 39 seconds, the video basically calls everyone who returned their awards ’traitors’ and says they have insulted the nation. It ends with a message calling for its viewers to boycott the award returnees:
Let’s Boycott… All Those Pseudo Intellect… Film Makers… Stars… Journalists… And Anti-Nationals For Returning Their Awards
Dhikkaar Hai… (sic)
The video has been doing the rounds of social media for the past few days and has evoked mixed reactions on Twitter, with many praising Sharma’s efforts while others slammed him for it.
Many Twitterati were impressed with the video, saying it tells the truth and deserved to be made.

This is how creative minds protest. Not by conspiring to return awards.

This is SO TACKY.
SO BADLY MADE.
PATHETIC is the only word.
Team Anupam Uncle needs to hire better directors.
While I personally find the Dhikkar Hai video by Vivek Sharma in bad taste, in the spirit of freedom of expression, he has his rights too.
