Central team visits two sites for IISER

A central team from the ministry of human resources development on Tuesday inspected two sites, Palur Hill and Laudigaon, near Berhampur in Ganjam district for the proposed Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER).

BERHAMPUR: A central team from the ministry of human resources development on Tuesday inspected two sites, Palur Hill and Laudigaon, near Berhampur in Ganjam district for the proposed Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER).
"We have provided all information about the sites to the team," said additional district magistrate (revenue) Sitanshu Rout.

The team also visited two private engineering colleges, on the outskirts of the town. Classes of the central institute will be held from these temporary campuses from the next academic year, official sources said. In August, the state government had announced to set up IISER at Berhampur and provide free land for the premier institute.
The team was led by Rina Sonowal Kouli, director, Union human resources development. Other members included Vinod Kumar Singh, director IISER Bhopal, Ratnam Varada Rajkumar of IIT-Bhubaneswar, Umesh Mishra, chief engineer, Central Public Works Department, Bhubaneswar, and L N Gupta, principal secretary, technical education and higher education, state government.
