Out of 78,077 students who registered in Maharashtra, 76,270 appeared and only 16,464 passed the examination. In Mumbai, the total number of students registered was 21,261, out of which 20,843 appeared and 3,735 passed the examination.

In 2013, the overall pass percentage of Mumbai was 17.25% which went up in 2014 with the percentage recorded at 27.95%. However, it came down this year to 17.92%. Maharashtra's overall pass percentage of last year was also high (26.77%) compared to this year's 21.59%.

The HSC examination was conducted this year in 249 centres across Maharashtra. There were 39 exam centres in Mumbai.

Students who wish to evaluate their marks can do so between November 21 and November 30. The photocopy of answer sheet can be obtained between November 18 and December 7.

Gangadhar Mhamane, chairman, Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, said: "The results are same like every year. This year, if it has come down it is due to the lesser number of students appearing for the exam. The October examination of HSC may happen in July next year, like it happened with SSC following the education minister's announcement."
