All is set for the “Mahasamprokshanam” of Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple at Srirangam on Wednesday.
The second phase of the samprokshanam for the major shrines of the temple would be performed between 8.45 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Wednesday.
Meeting
With the event expected to draw devotees in large numbers, the city police authorities convened a security-related meeting on Tuesday evening with senior police officers on the eve of the “Mahasamprokshanam”.
Convened by the Commissioner of Police Sanjay Mathur at the Police Commissionerate, the meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioners of Police, Additional Superintendents of Police, Deputy Superintendents of Police, and Assistant Commissioners of Police.
During the hour-long meeting, the senior officers were briefed regarding the security arrangements, their specific duties, and responsibilities besides the dos’ and dont’s, police sources said.
In addition to mobilising city police strength, police personnel from various districts from the central, south, and west zones have been engaged for security duty at various points in the temple town. Apart from police strength, a group of around 250 Home Guards would be engaged to assist the police security.
The meeting featured a power point presentation on the sprawling temple complex, the entry points and the traffic-related arrangements. The sources said the temple and its vicinity had been divided into different sectors as part of the security plan with police presence in every sector.
The “Moolasthanam” sector would be supervised by a police team headed by a Superintendent of Police. Commissioner of Police Sanjay Mathur told The Hindu that the officers were given a briefing about the security arrangements and their specific roles and responsibilities as many of them were from other districts.
Rehearsal
A full-scale rehearsal was carried out on Tuesday evening at the temple and its vicinity. Full-scale deployment would be in place in the early hours, a senior officer said.
Meanwhile, District Collector K.S. Palanisamy inspected the works carried out by the Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments Department, corporation, district administration and the police at Srirangam on Tuesday in view of the event.
Accompanied by senior officials, Mr. Palanisamy inspected the facilities created by the civic body, health and public works department.
Full-scale deployment of police force would be in place in the early hours, a senior officer said.
