Experts seek shift to overhaul public, private governance

IoD honours Maitama, Solanke, Balogun, others

IN order to move the economy of the nation forward, particularly in the face of current economic challenges, experts have stressed on the need for a paradigm shift in the governance of both private and public sectors of Nigeria’s economy.

Speaking on ‘Paradigm Shift in Public and Private Sector Governance’ at the Fellows Investiture Evening of the Institute of Directors Nigeria (IoD) in Lagos, one of the experts, who is also the nation’s Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed said: “Leaders, either in the public or private sector, have huge responsibilities. In the era of change, the responsibilities become monumental. As leaders, we are the book our workers read.”

The minister, who was represented by the Artistic Director and Chief Executive Officer, National Troupe of Nigeria, Akin Adejuwon said that as the new administration was taking the country through a shift to overhaul governance, leaders in private and public sector must follow same example to move from principles to practice

Mohammed disclosed that the new administration would collaborate with the private sector in ensuring that Nigerians own its change agenda.

“Let me add that in the days ahead, we will be calling on the private sector to collaborate with us, as we work to ensure that Nigerians themselves own the change agenda”, he stated.

Nigeria’s former Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule, who also spoke at the event, stated that Nigerians must become patriotic, honest and concerned about the growth of the country and expect less from the government, particularly the new administration.

Maitama, who bagged fellow honorary award of the institute along with other notable Nigerians, who include Otunba Michael Balogun, Mrs Folake Solanke, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, Mrs Olutoyin Olakunri and host of others said: “I believe that Nigeria has to move forward and for Nigeria to move forward, you need people with integrity, people who are honest, patriotic and concerned about their fellow Nigerians”
