A doctor was killed in an accident at Tuckerammalpuram check-post on the Tirunelveli – Nagercoil highway on Tuesday night. Police said the speeding Nagercoil – Tirunelveli State Express Transport Corporation bus crushed a sports utility vehicle coming from the opposite direction to kill C. Niranjan (45) from Padmanabhapuram near Nagercoil on the spot even as the vehicles were crossing Tuckerammalpuram check-post around 8.15 p.m.
The SUV was thrown away from the highway in the impact of the mishap. A few passengers, who were travelling in the bus, sustained only minor bruises in the mishap.
Tirunelveli City Traffic Investigation Wing police have registered a case.
