Work on W Ghats’ spiders presented

Amravati: The amazing spider diversity from protected areas of Western Ghats of Maharashtra presented in vivid hues by Suvarna More impressed the delegates from across the globe on the second day of the 3rd conference of Asian Society of Arachnology here on Tuesday.
Besides Survana’s research work, Hisham K El-Hennawy spoke on genus Stegodyphus in India and South-East Asia while Yuru Marusik’s case study on revealing diversity of spiders in Siberia showed how to study taxonomy living in remote areas.
Peter Koomen’s presentation on jumping spiders of Kinabalu mountain, Sabah, and Borneo, and Anuradha Rajoria’s presentation on Araneae abundance of Satpura landscape marked the end of an engaging first session.
On Wednesday, a symposium on rearing of spiders and a live demonstration will be held. Later, delegates will leave for Muthawa centre in Melghat for collection of spiders and trekking in nearby forest.
