Israeli undercover forces on Tuesday detained three Palestinian schoolchildren from the Ras al-Amud area of Silwan neighborhood in occupied East Jerusalem, witnesses said.

Witnesses said that undercover Israeli agents dressed as Palestinians chased the children while they were on their way to school before detaining them.

During the chase, the undercover officers reportedly pulled out handguns and fired them into the air.

After detaining the three children, backup forces arrived and took the children into custody.

An Israeli police spokesperson could not be reached for comment.

Reports of Israeli forces using undercover agents have been on the rise in recent weeks.

Last week, undercover forces raided a Hebron area hospital, detaining an injured man receiving treatment, and killing another. The incident was at least the third recent account of undercover forces raiding Palestinian hospitals.

Earlier this month, undercover forces shocked protesters in Bethlehem when they revealed themselves, pulling out handguns and detained a Palestinian youth during clashes in the city.
