The World Mus Championships took place in Mar del Plata, Argentina, organized by the local Denak Bat Basque club, with 24 players participating.  In this, its 38th edition, the Spanish team, Andres Fernandez and Norberto Rodriguez, won the txapela with the team for Euskadi coming in second and Venezuela third.  The hosts were very satisfied with the event and also highlighted the new technologies used.

Mar del Plata, Argentina.   A total of twelve teams representing Argentina, Australia, Chile, Spain, Euskadi, France, Mexico, Uruguay, the US and Venezuela, gathered in Mar del Plata from October 31 through November 8th to participate in the World Mus Championships of Basque Communities 2015.

The winning team came from Spain comprised of Andres Fernandez and Norberto Rodriguez, while second place went to Antonio Olazabal Rio and Mikel Bea Jaurrieta, representing Euskadi.  V enezuela was third.   The Argentine hosts weren’t as lucky this time with Argentina team A, Horacio Almada and Nestor Laborde, taking 7th and Argentina team B, Felipe Finger father and Felipe Finger son, coming in 11th.

The hosts also held a parallel tournament for companions and anyone else who was in the area on the weekend.  Martin Lahittette, member of the club explained to EusalKultura.com how this tournament went, “with participants form 10 countries and many people in the province of Buenos Aires who came especially on that weekend to play.  In all we had 36 pairs, a great number.  There was also a curious case, a team from Euskadi who traveled from there to Madrid and Madrid to Buenos Aires and from there took the bus to Mar del Plata to come just in time to compete.  They played, and returned to Buenos Aires the next day,” Lahittette said.

In regards to changes and novelties, the organizers highlighted the use of new technology during the tournament.  “Results could be seen throughout the championship, on a big screen, as well as on TVs at the club house and on cell phones with Wi-Fi also in the clubhouse.  The results online were updated daily and on the final day online as well.  We hope that this technology can continue to be used at future world tournaments,” Denak Bat sources said.

Lahittette also informed us that the site of the 2016 World Mus Championship has yet to be determined since it was originally to take place in Euskadi but now there is a possibility that Spain may host it.  “In 2017 the tournament will be in the United States, and we hope that new countries will be invited to this competition, like Germany for example,” he added.
