‘Proud of the girls in our family’

Amitabh Bachchan has spoken up passionately about how proud he is to be the father of a girl child.
“My daughter Shweta is my first-born. My son’s first-born is a daughter and we’re very proud of our children, male or female,” he says. Interestingly Big B’s brother Ajitabh’s first-born is his daughter Naina.
Also, Big B’s biwi, Jaya is one of three sisters. She says, “We have no brothers. Our father (eminent journalist Taroon Coomar Bhaduri) brought us up in a gender-free atmosphere. We never even thought of ourselves as being in a family of daughters. No fuss was made over being girl children. We were three normal children brought to be self-dependent, free-willed and educated.”
The Bachchans now hope to see a society where being a girl child or a boy child is not an issue.
