Marking the death anniversary of Rudrama Devi, the most prominent ruler of Kakatiya dynasty, the Vivekananda Yuvajana Mandali, Chandupatla, has decided to unveil a bronze statue of the warrior queen at their village on November 27.
Chandupatla village, located near Nakrekal, is famously known for the discovery of an inscription that confirmed the death date of Rudrama Devi as November 27, 1289.
Speaking to The Hindu , president of the Yuvajana Mandali, which played a key role in restoring the inscription, Tanguturi Saidulu said that Hare Krishna Nanda, Assistant General Manager at State Bank of Hyderabad, Nalgonda branch had donated some amount to erect the statue at the entrance of the village.
“A Warangal-based sculptor, Sampath Reddy had carved the bronze statue of the warrior queen riding on a horse holding a sword in her hand which was brought to Chandupatla recently,” he said.
During Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s visit to Chandupatla to launch Mission Kakatiya works at Rasamudram tank on April 26, he had promised to develop the village as prominent heritage tourist spot in the State.
Mr. Saidulu said the Chief Minister also promised to visit the village again to unveil the statue. During his visit, Mr. Rao had also granted some additional funds for restoration work of historical Rasamudram tank which was dug up by Kakatiya kings. Chandupatla inscription had provided major link in the history of Telangana. Before the discovery of this inscription there was no concrete evidence available on the death date of the greatest woman king who ever ruled Telangana. Recognising the importance of the inscription, Telugu Academy also included a lesson on this inscription in intermediate textbooks. Representatives of Yuva Jana Mandali and historians are planning to meet the Chief Minister to invite him formally to Chandupatla in the next couple of days.
