Road accidents take 13 lives every day in state: NCRB
AHMEDABAD: Members of Ahmedabad Traffic Consultative Committee (ATCC) along with officials of city traffic police and family members of the road accident victims marked the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims on Sunday by paying homage to the accident victims during the year and lighting candles near Ahmedabad Management Asso ciation (AMA) in Vastrapur.

According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data, Gujarat lost 7,857 lives in 2014 or 13 lives every day in road accidents.The state was third highest in terms of deaths due to spee ding as 4,830 or 61.47% of the deaths were reported due to speeding.
Dr Pravin Kanabar, president of ATCC, said that the issue of road accidents is multidimensional. " Against one death, there are around 40 injured, half of which live with full or partial disability. The most affected are in the age group of 15 to 35 years that are primary bread winners of the family ," he said.
Family members of Bijal Shah, a city-based designer, who died in a road crash on SG Road during Navratri festival last month, were present at the event and appealed to the participants to respect the laws and be aware of the traffic rules to avert accidents.
