DOHA, Nov 16 (KUNA) -- Ra'ed Mohammad Al-Shayji, from Kuwait's Zakat House, won the second award of the creative works category of the GCC contest for research and creative works in zakat area.
Wadhha Jaber Al-Marri and Ryam Mohammad Saeed, of UAE's Zakah Fund, won the first place in the same category.
The award-giving ceremony was held at the conclusion of the 12th meeting of the heads of Zakat departments in the GCC states which concluded on Sunday evening.
Director General of the Zakat House Dr. Ibrahim Ahmad Al-Saleh voiced joy for the honoring of the House, saying it is a new achievement that is added to the long history of humanitarian philanthropic action in Kuwait.
"Charitable action is a long tradition handed down from generation to another in Kuwait," he said in a statement to KUNA following the ceremony.
Al-Saleh recalled the UN honoring of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as Humanitarian Leader in September last year.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the House to making new achievement and developing innovative ideas for humanitarian action at the regional level.
He spoke highly of the GCC Secretariat -- represented by GCC Assistant Secretary General for Legislative and Legal Affairs Ambassador Hamad Al-Merri, for facilitating the joint action among the delegations of the GCC member states.
He thanked Kuwait Ambassador to Qatar Met'eb Al-Mutawteh for arranging for and facilitating the participation of the Kuwaiti delegation in the meeting.
He thanked the Qatari Amir, government and people for their contributions to the philanthropic action and appreciated the efforts made by the Qatari Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs for ensuring the success of the just-ended meeting.
The meeting, organized by the Qatari Ministry, reviewed the progress made since the last year meeting hosted by Kuwait where the contest was first launched, the fourth training plan for 2016-18, and the Zakat diploma program. (end) nnd.gb
