Militant involved in killings arrested

SRINAGAR,  Nov 14: Police today arrested a Hizbul Mujahideen militant who was involved in killings and recent incidents of firing on security forces in Anantnag district while the security forces operation that was launched against a group of militants in Kupwara forests yesterday continued for 2nd day today.
Police said that on a specific information Anantnag Police and One -Rashtriya Rifles (RR) of Army arrested a Hizbul Mujahideen militant, Imtiyaz Ahmad Dar alias Hafiz son of Abdul Khaliq resident of Pahnou, Shopian from Qazigund area of  Anantnag district today.
Police said that during the investigations it was found that he along with two other militants of the outfit was involved in the killing of one Javid Ahmad Sofi alias Javid Waza, son of Mohammed Ismail resident of Bijbehara and Reyaz Ahmad Khan, son of Ali Mohammad Khan resident of Karawa Malnoo in Shopian.
Javaid was killed by militants on March 22 this year at New Colony Bijbehara in district Anantnag while as Riyaz Ahmad Khan was killed on October 25 last year. Police said that the militant was also involved in an attack on guard post at Court Complex in District Shopian in which a policeman was injured. He was also involved in a firing incident in Awantipora in district Pulwama and at Kowni area of Anantnag district.
Police is ascertaining his role in recent grenade attacks in the Anantnag district.  In one of such attacks two weeks ago at Anantnag town, 7 persons were injured when militants hurled a grenade at an Army convoy which missed the intended target and exploded on the road.
In the meantime, Army operation that was launched yesterday in Kupwara forests against a group of militants continued today.
Army’s 41 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) cordoned off village Payerpati, Manigah along Line of Control (LoC) in the frontier district of Kupwara yesterday following specific information about the presence of three militants in the area.
An army party was fired upon during the searches in the area by the militant group injuring two soldiers Naik Ram Avtar and Sepoy Hokhare Jitender.
Both the soldiers were immediately shifted to military hospital Drugmulla where from they were airlifted to Army’s 92 Base Hospital at Badami Bagh Cantonment in Srinagar.
The operation was put on hold last night but was resumed today. However, Army didn’t establish any contact with the group today. More troops have joined the operation and a vast forest area has been cordoned off.
Another operation in North Kashmir’s Bandipora forests is going on for last three weeks against a group of LeT militants. So far, one Army jawan was killed in that operation on October 28 and it is going on. The operation in Bandipora forests was launched last month after a group of militants was spotted.
