JAMMU, Nov 14: On 126th birth anniversary of Pt Jawaharlal Nehru, first Prime Minister of the country, rich tributes were paid to him by various organizations, institutions and individuals while the occasion was also celebrated as Children’s Day.
A function in this connection was held at PCC Headquarters Shaheedi Chowk Jammu, wherein senior functionaries of PCC, DCC Jammu Urban and Rural and presidents of BCC, Ex-Corporators, Ward presidents of the party and other paid their tributes to Pt Nehru.
The function was presided over by senior vice president PCC, Sham Lal Sharma (former Minister), who described Pt Nehru as a great visionary and architect who laid the foundation of Modern India.
Others who spoke on the occasion, included Jahangir Mir (Deputy Chairman Legislative Council), G N Monga; Ravinder Sharma; Rajnesh Sharma; Shabir Ahmed Khan, Manjit Singh, S S Channi, Manmohan Singh, Vikram Malhotra, Iqbal Malik, Gurbachan Kumari Rana, Kuldip Raj Verma; Masood Choudhary, Anil Chopra, Shashi Sharma and Neeraj Gupta.
PCC chief , G A Mir also paid glowing tributes to first PM of the country on the latter’s birth anniversary and described Pt Nerhu as a revolutionary leader with a great vision and political wisdom. Pt Ji played a major role in developing independent India in all respect, he added.
Meanwhile, senior Congress leader and PCC general secretary Dr Manohar Lal in a cultural program organized by the Krishana Public High School Parnala (Seri Mooni) in tehsil Billawar to celebrate the 126th birth anniversary of Ist Prime Minister of India Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru, recalled his contributions for the country.
While highlighting the contributions of Late Nehru towards the building of Modern India, Dr Sharma said that Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru was a great visionary leader, a prominent lawyer, eminent educationist, great writer and architect of modern India. He adopted the mixed economy to develop the nation and give different direction to the global society to adopt alternative way of governing which was highly appreciated by the whole world. Dr Sharma further said that Pandit Nahru had great love and special affections towards the children, He was of firm belief that the children’s are the future of the Nations and should be taken care of.
To pay tribute to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary, District Congress Committee, Kathua, organized programme at District Headquarters under the leadership of district president and former MLC Subash Gupta.
Congress Committee, Kishtwar also paid tributes to Pt Nehru on his birth anniversary. On this occasion, Mr Bhandari recalled the sacrifices and services of Pt Nehru for the nation.
NPP volunteers, led by Prof Bhim Singh, paid tributes to Pt Jawaharlal Nehru at Jantar Mantar and alleged that the incumbent BJP Government at Centre was playing hostile to the former Prime Ministers. Today the Modi Government ignored to pay tributes or failed even to remember Pt Jawaharlal Nehru on his 126th birth anniversary. This was most unfortunate that Modi Government has been acting hostile and breaching India’s cultural heritage, Bhim Singh alleged.
The District Legal Service Authority Jammu celebrated Children’s Day by organizing two programmes. On the instruction of Chairman Sanjay Gupta (Pr District and Session Judge Jammu), Adnan Sayeed (Secretary District Legal Service Authority Jammu) and Anjum Ara (Sub-Judge Special Mobile Magistrate) visited the Bal Ashram and apprised the children about the importance of the day as well as their rights.
On the occasion of Children’s Day, District Legal Service Authority, Reasi, under the chairmanship of K S Parihar, Pr District and Session Jammu Reasi, organized a legal awareness camp at Christian Colony. Mr Parihar threw light on several issues like free and compulsory education of children, Child Labour Act, Mid Day meal etc.
Tehsil Legal Service Committee Udhampur celebrated Children’s Day at Jagriti Bal Ashram, Billan Bouli Udhampur, Nari Niketan Batal Ballian Udhampur and Bal Ashram Batal Ballian. Advocate Sanjeet Kumar, and others spoke on the occasion and threw light on the importance of the day.
On the occasion of Children’s Day, a motorcycle rally was organized in Udhampur town by the district administration to spread awareness for abolition of child labour. The rally was organized on the directions of District Development Commissioner Udhampur, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary. ADC Udhampur, Angrez Singh Rana flagged off the rally from DC Office premises. After passing through different main locations of the town, the rally culminated at Dak Bangalow Udhampur.
On the Children’s Day, Wave Mall celebrated the occasion with exciting events, including performances by Children of different age group and interactive games in which the Emcee involved walk-ins of different age groups. The participants and winners were given away exciting gifts and prizes. The event got tremendous response from one and all.
National Incredible Literacy Mission celebrated the 126th birth anniversary of Jawahar Lal Nehru as Children’s Day with enthusiasm and fervor. The programme began with lightening of traditional lamp followed by welcome address by Monika Gupta, Centre Head. Rakeshwar Singh Kurhan, Project Director, National Incredible Literacy Mission, Jammu, was the chief guest. A colourful cultural programme was presented by students. Senior Teachers, including Shivani Gupta, Monika Gupta, Visheata and Preeti Chopra also attended the function.
G S Accounts Institute celebrated Children’s Day in the institution premises. Students dedicated songs to teachers, played games and quiz. They celebrated the day with great enthusiasm. The chairman, Girish Sharma gave a motivational speech and informed students about the importance of this day. Special Invitee, Virkam Singh, chairman JK Against Corruption, also spoke on the occasion.
On the occasion of Children’s Day, ‘Childline Jammu’ launched its weeklong “Childline Se Dosti week” programme for educating youth and children about Child Rights and bad effect of female feticide. More than 300 people from all walks of life participated in the progrmme. Childline team members SC Bali, Ashok Kumar Kaw, Sakshi Bali, Gurmeet Kour, Bhupesh Jamwal, Mohd Fareed, Rajpal Sharma, Khushi Ram participated in the campaign.
To celebrate the Children’s Day, Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan today performed Musical Play “Nehru Ke Sapne”, in collaboration with Unison Cultural Troupe, Sangam Tru Art Production and ESRM. The play was written and directed by M L Dogra, renowned writer and musical play director. The program was inaugurated by V K Magotra, former Regional Director of Directorate of Field Publicity, J&K Government of India, in presence of Tara Singh Charak and Romesh Chander.
APS Samba celebrated Children’s Day with great fervour and enthusiasm. The celebration began with a mesmerizing show, presented by the tiny-tots who represented various social issues prevalent in the society through their fancy dresses. A cultural programme was also performed by the teachers of the school. Songs, dances, skit etc were other highlights of the show.
On Children’s Day, a special assembly was conducted by the teachers of KC International School. On the occasion, Headmistress, Kesar Patel and Co-ordinators Arti Sharma, Randeep Wazir and Rajni Malhotra spoke on Pt Nehru. This was followed by a Questionnaire based on the life of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. Other highlights of the programme, included patriotic song in the voice of Rajni Malhotra, a dance performance by the teachers, and a beautiful poem recited by Manju Gupta.
The lady wing of Mahavir International, Jammu Centre, in collaboration with Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu Region and Govt SMGS Hospital, Jammu, distributed 100 Kits to newly born babies in Govt SMGS Hospital, Jammu on the occasion of “Children’s Day”. The items were provided and distributed by Rajni Jain, secretary, Mahavir International, Jammu Centre in presence of Leena Jain, other members, Dr Dara Singh (Medical Superintendent, Govt. SMGS Hospital, Jammu), R C Puri, Hony Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu Region and others.
On the occasion of Children Day, a grand function was organized in Mother India Sr Sec School, R S Pura. The event started with homage to Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. Sonia Tohra, Principal, Mother India Sr Sec School, garlanded the photograph of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. In the programme, various cultural Items and speeches were presented by the students of 11th and 12th standards.
Army Public School, Udhampur organized School Fete and Science, SST and Art and Craft exhibition on the occasion of Children’s Day. Children from all the classes presented their working models such as Wireless Robots and splendid work of their art form. On the other hand all classes had their respective food as well as games stalls in the fete. The Lucky Draws, comprising various prizes such as Palmtops, Andriod Phones, OTG, Mixer Grinder and other gift hampers, were also declared on the occasion.
JAKFAS – J&K Fine Arts Society Jammu, organized a photo exhibition on life of India’s first Prime Minister Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru for the School children. Large number of children participated in the Photo Exhibition. JAKFAS general secretary Suresh Sharma had compiled and coloured all the photographs of the exhibition, which gave knowledge about the history of Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru.
R M Public School celebrated Children’s Day by organizing a colourful programme, which included skits and dance items etc. Co-ordinator of Pre-primary wing, Pooja Padwal and Co-ordinator of Primary Wing, Meenakshi Pathania also performed on the occasion.
Little Angles School Vijaypur celebrated Children’s Day by organizing an impressive function and flag hoisting ceremony. The tiny tots presented a variety of colourful programme and displayed their talent. The school Principal, Rajan Gupta, threw light on importance of the day.

The teachers presented colourful items while the school Principal threw light on importance of the day besides contribution of Pt Jawaharlal Nehru towards the nation.
BSF School Jammu celebrated Children’s Day by organizing a programme, which began with the garlanding of Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru’s portrait. DIG BSF S N Mehta, chief guest on the occasion and Principal Dr S K Shukla along with the staff and the students, paid floral tribute to Pt Nehru for his affection towards children. A wide range of innovative and fun filled activities were organized. Various competitions, such as musical chair, Rangoli, flower arrangement, salad making, needle thread race, volleyball match, lemon spoon race and many more were organized to mark the event.
