LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh director general of police Jagmohan Yadav has said that there has been considerable rise in intolerance in society due to social, economic and political reasons and the state police are alert in fighting anti-social elements that are out to disturb peace and harmony.
“State police have been alert or else the situation would have turned alarming.
However, there is need for collective effort from all sections of society to maintain peace,” he said.
The DGP’s observation comes in the wake of growing incidence of communal tension and violence in western UP. During Diwali, about half-a--dozen incidents of communal nature were reported from this part of the state. A 22-year-old youth died and many were injured after communal clashes broke out in three localities in Aligarh, Meerut and Muzaffarnagar districts on Thursday over bursting of fire-crackers.
