Senior Congress leader and former union minister Manish Tewari today said that India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru’s teachings of tolerance, pluralism, secularism and harmony were most relevant in contemporary times. He warned against any attempts aimed at doing away with the principles laid down by our founding fathers led by Pandit Nehru as that can prove dangerous for the country.Tewari was addressing a function and free medical aid camp organised at Basti Jodhewal to mark the birth anniversary of Pandit Nehru here today. He referred to the growing unrest and the rise in the incidents of terror across the world, particularly the one in Paris yesterday where over a hundred people were killed.

The Congress leader said, it was important for the societies to have mutual harmony if they wanted to progress and prosper. “If India is stable and peaceful and people are living in mutual harmony, we must thank our first Prime Minister for laying out such a roadmap”, he said, amidst cheers from the crowd. The former minister appreciated the free medical aid provided at the camp by the doctors of the Dayanand Medical College, led by Dr Mohammad Yamin.Among others present on the occasion included Gurmail Pahalwan, Pawan Dewan, Harjinder Laly, Varinder Sehgal, Sunil Datt, Vikram Pehalwan, Jaimal Singh, Baljinder Bunty, Palwinder Taggar, Satwinder Jawaddi, Baljinder Bunty, Rajnish Chopra, Inderjit Tony Kapoor, and others.
