Chandrapur collector meets kin of farmers
Chandrapur: In a noble gesture, district collector Deepak Mhaisekar celebrated ‘Bhaubeej’ with the kin of farmers who had committed suicide and also presented gifts to them. The initiative was taken by the union of revenue employees following an appeal by the collector.
Last year 40 farmers had committed suicide in Chandrapur while this year 28 farmers ended their life. Mhaisekar interacted with the kin of deceased farmers, Vijay Lonbale from Ghosri, Shivaji Deshmukh from Pipri (Deshmukh), Sona Gurnule from Pombhurna, Nanaji Kharkar and Sadashiv Borikar from Chek Pipri and Rambhau Upre.
He also inquired whether they are getting benefits of government schemes.
Warora farmer ends life
Somdeo Pal (45), a farmer from Amdi village in Warora tehsil, committed suicide by consuming pesticide at his farm on Friday. He was rushed to subdistrict hospital at Warora, but doctors declared him dead. Reason behind his suicide could not be ascertained.
