Jaipur: Two arrested for illegally selling blood to NGO representative
JAIPUR: Gangs selling blood to patients continue to mushroom at Sawai Man Singh hospital. The police on Wednesday arrested two men for selling blood to a representative of an NGO. One of the men has been arrested for the same crime in the past too. He was recently released on bail.
According to the police, the accused, identified as Mukesh Meena and Jaikishan Soni, are residents of Karauli and Jaipur's Sodala area, respectively.

"On November 11, one Bhawana Sharma, a representative of an NGO, had come to see a patient. The duo ran into her and offered to sell her blood. She told them that she needed two units of blood for a family member admitted in the hospital," said a police officer.
The officer said that the duo agreed to arrange the units for her for a total cost of Rs 7,000. "She paid for one unit after which the duo asked her to meet them at a place in the hospital a while later," said the officer. The woman, however, reported the matter to the policemen at the police outpost in the SMS Hospital premises.
"The duo was caught red-handed selling blood to our complainant. They were arrested and brought to Moti Dungari police station for questioning," said the officer.
The officer added that Jaikishan Soni is a habitual offender. "He was arrested earlier but was released on bail within 26 days," said the officer. Many gangs selling blood to patients have been busted in the SMS Hospital in the recent past.
Patients, particularly from outside Jaipur, fall victim to these gangs, who charge anywhere between Rs 2,500 to Rs 10,000 for one unit of blood. The police officials said that many of these criminals arrested for selling blood are habitual criminals.
"We are trying to prepare a database of these criminals and keep a tab on them," said the officer.
