Sathanur Reservoir had been deprived of full reservoir level storage for the past four years due to monsoon failure and other reasons.
Thanks to the recent deep-depression that led to heavy rains, the reservoir has been receiving plenty of inflow of water on Wednesday.
Opening of Krishnagiri Reservoir
This is as a result of opening of the Krishnagiri Reservoir in the upstream as well as due to good rains in the catchment area between Krishnagiri Reservoir and Sathanur Reservoir.
At around noon on Wednesday the dam was receiving an inflow of 8,750 cubic feet per second taking the water level in the dam to 97.1 as against the full reservoir level of 119 feet.
Estimated storage in the dam by that time was 3,344 million cubic feet (M.C.ft.) as against full capacity of 7,321 M.C.ft.
Irrigation tanks
Irrigation tanks in the district too received a good amount of rainfall in the last two days of rain.
As many as 610 tanks are being maintained by the Middle Pennaiyar Division of PWD-Water Resource Organisation (WRO).
Amont these tanks water level in eight tanks reached Full Tank Level (FTL), 33 tanks reached 75 per cent of the capacity and another 31 tanks reached more than 50 per cent.
The remaining 538 tanks are yet to reach their 50 percent capacity, WRO sources added.
