Hisar Health Dept cracks down on ultrasound centres

The Health Department has again launched a crackdown on the some ultrasound centres in Hisar and Hansi allegedly carrying out sex-determination tests.

Sources said despite the crackdown on ultrasound centres in June, the authorities got reports some centres were carrying out the illegal activity.

The Hisar police and the department had then carried out an operation to crack down on the nexus between private hospitals and ultrasound centres run by private paramedical staff. The police had registered a case in this connection.

Sources said that on October 29, the department, on a tip-off, formed a team and sent a decoy pregnant woman for determining the gender of the feotus to a private hospital. The plan could not be successful, but the authorities got clues that an ultrasound centre could be involved in the sex-determination racket.

The higher authorities of the department have reportedly asked the local authorities to crack down on suspected ultrasound centres or other elements who could be involved in the illegal activity.

Dr Sanjay Dahiya, Deputy Civil Surgeon, Hisar, said the department had set up a team to unearth the illegal activity in the city. “I cannot disclose any information regarding the investigation. We will submit a report to the higher authorities,” he added.
