THANE: The holiday court on Tuesday granted
bail to Thane
corporator Sudhakar Chavan, who was arrested a day earlier for allegedly possessing foreign
liquor in excess of the legally permitted volume. Chavan was released on a surety of Rs 15,000.
Chavan’s lawyers Harshad Bhadbade and Hemchandra Sawant presented the bail application before the court. Chavan was arrested after the Thane police, investigating his role in builder Suraj Parmar’s suicide case, found 62 bottles of foreign liquor in his Yeoor house.
Bhadbade said Chavan had told the police during their search that the liquor stock was for a family celebration and claimed that his client possessed the required
permits.
