JKBWA seeks development of Batwal community

JAMMU, Nov 9:  The Jammu and Kashmir Batwal Welfare Association held its general body meeting at Village Garhi today under the chairmanship of Sub Maj Romesh Sargotra.
Maintaining that a huge segment of Batwal population, putting up in hilly areas of the State, is educationally, economically and socially most backward, the Association strongly urged upon the Union Government to appoint a Commission in the light of Article 340 of the Constitution of India to investigate their conditions to take steps for their social and economic upliftment.
The Association also urged the Union Government to implement the report of survey of ethnographic study of J&K Batwal Community undertaken by the Central Planning Commission in 1994.
Association president and former MLA Sat Paul Lakhotra said during January 1994, the Govt of India with an object to ameliorate the living standard of the Batwal Community members, launched a study to assess their socio, economic and cultural life in the J&K State but even after passage of twenty one years, nothing for the upliftment of the Batwal Community had been done by the Govt. He urged Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to consider genuine demands of the Batwal community.
On the occasion, the meet nominated Sarpanch Jagdish Sandhu and Naib Sarpanch Shamsher Singh Sargotra to act as vice-president and joint secretary of the Association, respectively.
Prominent among those, who attended the meeting included Capt Om Parkash Tugga, Capt Kamal Chand Motan, Capt Darbari Lal Sargotra, Capt Ram Lal Sargotra, Sub Maj Gunni Ram Kaith, Sub Baldev Chand Sandhu, Hav Mohan Lal Motan, Hav Uttam Chand Sandhu, Naib Sarpanch Ram Lal Lakhotra, Panch Narayan Dass Bassa, Numberdar Sat Pal Lakhotra, R L Kaith, Mela Ram Tugga, Munshi Ram Motan, Gurdass Chand Sargotra, Punnu Ram Kaith, Kamal Singh Kaith, Khajan Chand Tugga, Tarsem Lal Motan, Garu Ram Lakhotra, Bishwa Ram Motan, Kuldeep Kumar Sargotra, Harbans Lal Motan, Chaman Lal Kaith, Rashpal Chand and Sukhwinder Lal.
