JAIPUR: Two women were buried alive while three others were seriously wounded in Jhunjhunu's Gudha Gaudji area on Saturday when a heap of clay caved in. The women were trying to get clay for using it for the floor of their makeshift homes. The villagers gathered at the spot and rescued the three women. The two other women died on the spot.
The incident took place in Ponkh village around 3 pm.
"These women were repairing homes ahead of Deepawali. As they lived in the makeshift houses, they used clay for flooring. Villagers usually get clay on the village outskirts. These women also went there and started digging up clay," said a police officer.
The officer said that suddenly the heaps of clay caved in. "Two women were buried alive while three other women were trapped. A few women who were digging up on the other side raised an alarm. Some villagers came to know about the mishap following which they rushed there to rescue them," said the officer.
The officer added that the villagers called some earth moving machines to the area and managed to pull three women out of the debris. Meanwhile, some police and administration officials also rushed to the spot.
"Two of the women pulled out were dead. The three other women were rushed to a government hospital for treatment. Their condition is stable," said the officer.
The bodies of the two deceased women were handed over to the family members after a postmortem examination.
