BENGALURU: A couple were killed after their car rammed a tractor laden with eucalyptus trunks near Vijayapura, Devanahalli, north of Benglauru, around 8 pm Sunday night.
Nagaraj, 54, a resident of Melur in Sidlaghatta taluk in Chikkaballapur district, was driving with his wife, Parvathamma, by the side. They were heading home, with their 15-year-old daughter sleeping on the rear seat.
The girl was unscathed while the eucalyptus trunks impaled her parents.
According to Vijayapura police, the tractor, which was going in front of the car, did not have any tail light and had not given any indication of the protruding stems. “We are not sure how exactly the accident took place, whether the couple were speeding. However, the car has rammed the tractor and the couple in front took the brunt of the hit,” police said.
The driver of the tractor abandoned the vehicle and fled from the spot.
