NAGPUR: India outclassed Canada 3-1 in the BWF World Junior Mixed Team Badminton Championships being played at Lima, Peru, on Friday.
After losing their fourth and last league match in the Group A2 against Malaysia, India went out of the title race as they could not finish on top of their group. Despite MR Arjun and Chirag Shetty winning their boys doubles match, the other Indians could not live up to the reputation.
Singles players ASS Syril Verma and G Ruthvika Shivani were expected to win their singles but they could not get the better of their respective Malaysian opponents.
However, India bounced back later in the day to down Canada 3-1 in the classification matches to decide the places between 9 and 16.
India will now take on Germany on Saturday night for the position between 9 and 12. If India get the better of Germany, India can finish ninth. In the last edition, India had finished 13th.
