DC, SSP resolve issue with Army amid protest

SURANKOTE, Nov 7: Amidst protest and bandh in Surankote town for several hours, the Deputy Commissioner and SSP, Poonch today resolved the issue of closer of passages by Army being used by civilians for many years, during meeting with the senior Army officials here today.
The people continued their protest against the Army authorities in the town here on the second consecutive day today. The market  remained closed for about two hours since morning. The agitating people were demanding that passages blocked by the Army be opened for the public. They alleged that their old passages to Degree College, Higher Secondary School, cremation ground and a Ziarat have been blocked by raising fencing by Army. The Army authorities on the other hand claimed that as per notification of Revenue authorities, they occupied their land anf fenced.
At around 12.15 pm, the SSP Poonch JS Johar and DC, M H Malik arrived in the town here and held meeting with the senior Army officials. The traders started opening shops after this development. It was later conveyed by the senior Army officials that they will send the proposal of allowing passage for the civilians at Surankote to the Ministry of Defence and if they allowed, they have no problem.  The district administration agreed to the proposal and also assured the locals that they have sorted out the issue and there is no need to agitate.
Though the market remained closed for about two hours and people also held protest for some time in the middle of the town, but movement of vehicles was not disrupted by the agitating people today.
