Karnataka moves SC against Yeddyurappa

The cases involved de-notification of land acquired by Bangalore Development Authority for formation of Banashankari V stage, BTM IV stage and for extending Mahalakshmi Layout.

Noting that there has been a miscarriage of justice, the Karnataka government has moved the Supreme Court challenging a High Court stay on the probe against former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa in three land related cases.

The cases involved de-notification of land acquired by Bangalore Development Authority for formation of Banashankari V stage, BTM IV stage and for extending Mahalakshmi Layout.

The BJP leader came under the scanner after the Lokayukta registered three FIRs against him and some others in June 2015 for corruption and various offences under the Karnataka Land (Restriction on Transfer) Act.

State’s contention

The State said the HC stalled the investigation despite the fact that the Lokayukta action was preceded by a Comptroller and Auditor General report saying that there was “misuse of authority with corrupt motive thereby causing heavy loss to the state exchequer”.
