Tight security measures for Himesh's musical eventin Kota
KOTA: Stringent security arrangements have been made for the musical evening at Dussehra Mela Ground in Kota where Himesh Reshammiya will be performing.
The strict measures are being taken after the public went out of control during a qawwalli programme in the city Thursday night and pulled out barricades and hurled stones at the police.
During a qawwalli performance by Bara Chaman Kaadri and Baby Vaarasi on Thursday, the public started making requests.
A few people had come in front of the stage and started dancing. "The crowd at the back of the ground started creating disturbance and before the police could react and access the situation, stones were being hurled at them," said Sawai Singh Godara, SP, Kota.
"A stampede-like situation developed," said Mahesh Vijay, mayor, Kota, Nagar Nigam. "This is most unfortunate as functions like these are held for entertainment only. We will be taking measures by asking for more police force so that we do not have a repeat," the mayor said.
"Himesh Reshammiya refused to come when he heard the news of what happened," said Ram Mohan Mitra, chairman Dashera Mela Samiti. "But we have been able to assure him that there would be no reoccurrence. Yesterday, there was lack of police force to control the mob. It was since, 9pm that I noticed some unrest among the public, and by 12am this was openly evident as stones were hurled, barricades were uprooted and used as a weapon. I requested for more force but nothing happened and in a blink of the eye there was violence all around. At one point to regain the ground police started lathi charging the crowd, mob turning violently wild was on their worst and the public was sandwiched in between," he said.

"I do agree that we had not sent that many number of police men and these men were not even geared for a disturbance with protective gears like helmets as we did not expect any disturbance during a kawalli," said Sawai Singh Godara. "Today as Himesh Reshammiya will be singing we are expecting more crowd and therefore deployed a 700 strong 700 police force."
"Last evening, police force did not resort to lathi charge. The intention of the police is to maintain law and order, along with nagar nigam employees even ten policemen have been injured last night, out of which two are admitted in MBS Hospital. " said Sawai Singh Godara.
The violent mob also broke shops, beat up shopkeepers. "In a nut-shell, what I perceive is that this has been executed by the corrupt corporators of Nagar Nigam who had wanted to earn money by corrupt means during the dashera mela," said Mahesh Gautam Lalli, revenue committee chairman of Dashera Mela Samiti. "There are no stones here, but approximately 500 to 700 stones were hurled at the police last night," he said
