Mohammad Hanifa of Tenkasi, who was arrested in connection with planting of a pipe bomb in Tirumangalam in Madurai district and auditor Ramesh murder case, was produced before the Principal District and Sessions Court here on Thursday.

After hearing the case, Principal District Judge R. Poornima posted it to November 24 for further hearing.

Police had brought Hanifa from Tiruchi prison, and produced him before the court amid tight security. The prosecution said that a team of police personnel from Madurai apprehended Nagoor Hanifa alias Mohamed Hanifa (35) from a hideout in Batlagundu in Dindigul district last year.

When the special team, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Karthikeyan attempted to arrest him, Hanifa assaulted the police officer in a bid to escape.

Later, he was taken back to Tiruchi prison.
