Rain throws life out of gear in parts of State

Moderate rain coupled with gusty winds lashed parts of Sullia in Dakshina Kannada on Wednesday night.

A huge tree fell on the house of Narayana Naika at Ambekallu in Sullia and damaged around 500 tiles. Arecanut, rubber trees in several plantations were uprooted. Parts of Mangaluru too experienced rain on Wednesday night. The sky remained overcast throughout Thursday. In the last 24 hours, Sullia experienced 24mm rainfall. Rainfall in Bantwal and Mangaluru remained scattered.

Thundershowers pounded Gonikoppa on Thursday morning. Thithimathi, Aanechowkooru, Konanakatte, Mayamudi, Palibetta, Ponnampete, Hathooru, Kunda and other surrounding areas experienced good rainfall.   Following heavy rain in Maddur taluk on Wednesday night, the Keragodu lake in Mandya taluk breached and the water overflowed onto the Mysuru-Bengaluru highway near Maddur causing traffic jams on Thursday.Hundreds of vehicles were stranded and the police personnel had a tough time streamlining the traffic. Vehicles were diverted through Malavalli and Kanakapura towards Bengaluru. Vehicular movement resumed at around 12 noon after the water receded. Maddur TMC officials visited the spot and took measures to drain the water using excavators.Moderate-to-heavy rains accompanied by strong wind and lightning lashed some parts of Shivamogga district on Thursday. The rain that started in the evening lashed for half an hour in Hosanagar taluk. Some parts of Shivamogga and Bhadravathi received moderate rains. The rest parts of the district witnessed cloudy weather .
