PESHAWAR: Achini Bala village councillor Majid Khan demanded authorities immediately pay arrears to the owners of land which was used by Phase VIII in Hayatabad. He said this at a news conference in Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday.

Khan said the property was allocated to Phase VIII, Hayatabad in 1997 but owners of the land had still not been paid. He added the villagers who own the land were deprived of many basic facilities and the amount that is owed to them will help them overcome many of their problems.

Added misery

Khan said since Achini Bala village was located between the tribal and settled part of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, it had suffered tremendously in the war against terrorism.

He added the lack of civic amenities and basic educational and health facilities had compelled residents to travel to distant places.

“Given the village’s security conditions, driving at night is not a feasible option and the absolute dearth of health centres creates a lot of problems for the villagers,” Khan said.

He demanded the establishment of a dispensary, replacement of all rusty pipes in the village and a functional tube-well so clean drinking water was available to the residents.
