BJP drops over 90 sitting AMC Councillors in ticket allocation

Gujarat BJP yesterday declared a list of 186 of 192 candidates for upcoming Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation election, polling for which is going to be held on 22 November.
Some of the eye-catching details of this list include exclusion of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha(BJYM) ticket seekers.
BJYM worker Ritesh Shah had sought party ticket from Paldi, Darshak Shah from Jodhpur, Himanshu Patel from Gota, Jayesh Patel from Nikol, Dr Rutvij Patel from Ghatlodia, Pankaj Shukla from Thakkarbapanagar and Vishwal Bharwad from Vejalpur.
However none of them has been given ticket. Only one BJYM worker Hiren Jadhav has been given ticket due to his proximity with a BJP minister.
Another eye-catching detail emerging from the list announced yesterday is that the party has dropped 92 existing Councillors, while 58 are renewed.
Party circles brief that Anandiben Patel had sought free-hand in selection of party candidates and barring Surendra Patel others have been sidelined while finalizing the candidates.
City party president Rakesh Shah while speaking to media persons briefly admitted there’s dissent among some workers over selection of candidates. He said he would take the matter to Shri IK Jadeja, who is one of three state leaders responsible for local body election management for party.
