Veteran Yakshagana artiste Margoli Govinda Sheregara being felicitated at Yakshagana Kalaragana office in Udupi on Tuesday.

Senior Yakshagana artiste Margoli Govinda Sheregara, who bagged the State-level Rajyotsava award for his contribution to Yakshagana, a couple of days ago, visited the office of Yakshagana Kalaranga here on Tuesday.

He was felicitated by the Kalaranga on the occasion. Replying to the felicitation, Mr. Sheregara said that he was delighted at getting the Rajyotsava award. He felt that he had got the award for striving to attain high standards in the art form of Yakshagana.

Veteran artiste Chittani Ramachandra Hegde, who is also a ‘Padmashri’ awardee, recalled the time he had spent with Mr. Sheregara during various Yakshagana performances.

He said Mr. Sheregara was a fine artiste and had the great ability of bringing out the right expressions during the performance of roles of various characters. Mr. Hegde also lauded the Yaskahgana Kalaranga for working for the welfare of Yakshagana artistes.

K. Ganesh Rao, president of Kalaranga and S.V. Bhat, vice-president, felicitated Mr. Sheregara. M. Gangadhar Rao, vice-president, Murali Kadekar, Secretary and Tallur Shivaram Shetty, former president, were present.
